We wave, we pledge, we trample, we honor, adorn as bunting strips of a mother’s cochineal-dyed
petticoat, a captain’s indigo uniform, white stars cut from the home-spun linen shirt pulled off a
soldier’s body; in wonder of whose delicate fingers defined, dreamed, hand-stitched our freedom.
